NDWN Annual Workshop & Woman of the Year Celebration

Please join the North Dakota Women's Network on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Bismarck at 3319 N 14th St.

Workshop: Effective Activism. Held from 1pm-5pm, this exciting workshop will focus on building skills to become an effective activist in your community. We will be joined by trainers from the Women’s Equality Center in Washington, DC for this workshop.  Topics will include identifying issues for activism, using past successes to build power for future campaigns, coalition building, developing a personal narrative to influence others, and writing letters to the editor.

The Women’s Equality Center is committed to working in partnership with state and national stakeholders to advance an economic and reproductive justice agenda that will improve the lives of women and their families through issue organizing campaigns. WEC works with partners on strategies that not only win victories for women, but that build the power and capacity that progressive organizations need to implement, protect and defend those wins over time.

Celebration: 2015 Woman of the Year. Following the workshop, we'll honor the contributions of NDWN's 2015 Woman of the Year - Dina Butcher. A reception will be held from 7pm-9pm at the Courtyard by Marriott in Bismarck at 3319 N 14th Street.

2015 NDWN Woman of the Year Recipient.
Dina has been a phenomenal voice for women in North Dakota over her career, and this past year she took things to the next level by leading the charge against Measure 1. A tireless advocate on the issue, she donated significant time to the campaign—leading meetings, influencing key stakeholders, and travelling the state.

In her public remarks, Dina often emphasized the fact that she is a Republican who opposes Measure 1. By doing so, she showed voters that the concerns with Measure 1 are non-partisan, and she opened the door for other Republicans to step forward and express their disagreement with the amendment, even though its sponsors were Republican. Her work to get additional prominent North Dakotans to vocally oppose the measure was a major factor in the campaign’s success.

No stranger to accomplishments, Dina is a former Deputy Agriculture Commissioner, a past president of the Bismarck Rotary Club, the ND Human Rights Division Director under Governor John Hoeven, the Director of the Division of Community Services under Governor Ed Schafer, and she also served on Governor Shafer’s Senior Staff as director of his statewide Leadership Initiative.

Dina and her husband, Bill, also operate W.T. Butcher & Associates in Bismarck, providing professional investigations and issue advocacy.

Dr. Stephanie Dahl, one of several people who nominated Dina, said, “Dina Butcher is a respected leader who constantly displays courage and compassion. In additional to her political activities, she is also a caring wife, mother, and grandmother. Dina is an incredible role model for the young woman in our state, and I can’t think of a better person to be named the 2015 North Dakota Women’s Network Woman of the year.” Perfectly stated.
Congratulations, Dina Butcher!
