Executive Director - Job Description

 

Overall Description:  The North Dakota Women’s Network (NDWN) serves as a catalyst for improving the lives of women through communication, legislation and increased public activism. The Executive Director is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and monitoring activities that support the organization’s purpose and goals.

 

Preferred education, experience and skills:

  • Four-year college degree

  • Experience working with non-profit organizations and community organizing

  • Experience with grant writing, managing a budget, and fundraising

  • Experience with public policy development and/or legislative advocacy

  • Ability to work cooperatively with people with diverse background and viewpoints

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and ability to work with a board

  • Demonstrated written and oral communications skills

  • Ability to be flexible and creative in thinking

  • Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills

 

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:  

  • Establish the NDWN direction, goals and objectives with the Board of Directors

  • Provide leadership and coordination to further NDWN purpose and goals

  • Lead non-partisan public policy efforts that align to the NDWN purpose and goals, with an emphasis on statewide legislation

  • Serve as a spokesperson for NDWN and on issues relevant to NDWN

  • Direct the finances of NDWN, including managing budgets, growing membership, overseeing contracts, and researching, writing and reporting on grants

  • Work with Board of Directors, including coordinating meetings, preparing materials and reports, and providing staff support for committees

  • Develop and execute on communication and marketing plans

  • Communicate and collaborate with volunteers and organizations with aligned goals

 

Work is performed with full latitude for professional judgment within the policy framework established by the Board of Directors. Work is reviewed by the Board of Directors, which considers results achieved pursuant to NDWN plans. Salary and benefits based on experience.
