Jynette Larshus

Vice Chair


Dr. Jynette Larshus became an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Political Science Coordinator at Minot State University in 2009. A native of Bottineau, Jynette attended college at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN before obtaining her PhD. in Sociology from the University of Albany – State University of New York. While teaching courses in sociology on culture deviance and criminology and political science courses on State, National and International political issues, her main research focuses on three areas:

changing cultural dynamics through technology, changing definitions of deviance, and the cultural factors associated with shifting political trends in North Dakota and the country at large. In 2013, Jynette began the Democracy Cafés – the ongoing, reoccurring, and informal public discussions of important civic issues facing the communities of ND. The forum is designed to encourage open dialogue to produce positive solutions to ND’s current and future challenges. Jynette lives in Minot with her husband and two children.
